Selected as the 2019 Americana Band of the Year by The CMA of Texas, Sawdust Road is a 5-piece band out of Houston, Texas. Their music has a unique mission statement: the music of today with the feel of yesterday! Built around the vocals of Mary Michelle, an impressive cast of musicians have united to create music that brings back that feel-good vibe of the 70's, with elements of Rock, Pop, Country, and even a pinch of Soul thrown in for good measure. They have received extensive international airplay, and charted on stations in places as diverse as Nashville, London, France, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia. On Spectrum Radio in London, they have had 9 songs retired into the Hall of Fame from their weekly countdown, and 8 number one hits. Recently their song "My Best Days" held that spot for 9 straight weeks. Performances have included appearances in Nashville during CMA Fest, and Austin during SXSW. In 2016, Sawdust Road was honored to win a Josie Music Award for Modern Country Album of the Year.
Sawdust Road is:
Mary Michelle — Lead Vocals - Singing since the age of 5, she left her heart in East Texas and found a love of country music. She made the difficult choice to forgo her country band in college - and the opportunity for a country music career - to raise a family. In the past, she’s toured Texas with a Christian rock band and has recorded a Country Christian CD splitting her time between studios in Nashville and Texas. Michelle has been a serious writer for the past 12 years and in 2012 came back to her heart – country music. She started Sawdust Road and hasn’t looked back. This is definitely “Not your momma’s country music,” as she likes to say.
Bill Landrith — Bass - Bill started playing bass in 1984 when a friend’s band lost their bass player and approached him to be the replacement. He had never picked up a bass guitar before but accepted the challenge. Another friend of his had an old bass in pieces and he gave it to Bill. Bill put it back together and to his astonishment it worked great. He then sat down and learned China Grove by The Doobie Brothers and the rest is history. He has never looked back. Bills latest project is the progressive band Sawdust Road.
John Lange — Guitar, Vocals - John is a veteran of the music industry with years of experience playing and recording. He cut his teeth in the Midwest, touring with several bands. In Dallas in the mid 80’s he joined a band named Safety In Numbers which gained considerable record label interest. Their release “Sinking In Air” was placed in regular rotation on KDGE The Edge, quite an accomplishment for a local band. They appeared on the national TV show Star Search, and also opened up concerts for The Romantics, The Tubes, Dennis Miller, and others. In July 2013 he joined Sawdust Road as a guitarist.
Henry Saloman — Keyboards, Vocals - Born in Brooklyn, New York, Henry was raised in Old Bridge, New Jersey. In the 80’s, he was the lead singer of a Pennsylvania based band called “No Control.” They had several regional top-40 hits but disbanded after 3 of the members graduated college. Afterwards, he took a 15 year hiatus from music before joining the band “Rostek” out of Metuchen, NJ. In 2009, he moved to Houston, TX, where he didn’t become active in the music scene until early in 2013. Henry’s meeting of the band and Michelle was an interesting twist of fate. It was at an open mic when he ran into Michelle and shortly after realized this was the project he was looking for.
Terry Hammer - drums - Terry has 41 yrs. of stage, studio and tour experience in Houston, TX and Los Angeles, CA and has played with various bands including Blendersex, The Persuaders, Heated Frenzy and Charlie Parker to name a few. Terry has also had the pleasure of opening for national acts such as Blackfoot, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foghat, Blue Oyster Cult, Point Blank, Pat Travers, Quiet Riot, Cheap Trick, Jefferson Starship, Georgia Satellites, David Allen Coe and others.
